family

I wanted to do one last sketch for #sketchtober

Here's another really rough sketch of a cute little family. Like I said, its very rough, so the proportions are odd and there's still a lot of guess-lining. Especially the wrists. Just look at the wrists. AGH THE WRISTS.

I honestly don't have much to say about this one. I felt rather impersonal when I was drawing it so there's nothing too meaningful in it. Just a young family with a fairly balanced distribution of genetic traits, the little girl having her mom's blonde hair and her dad's dark eyes, and the baby having dark hair like its dad. I don't know if I'll ever finish this one, I'm not really feeling it.

You know when an artist makes something phenomenal? Well for every phenomenal piece there's probably about forty half-done sketches that they just weren't really feeling the heart for.

I'd like this blog to be something that lets people see the not so perfect side of artists, where they make messes, where they don't always like what they make, and maybe some looks at the unfinished products. That has been in a way encouraging to me as an aspiring artist, because it shows that even my artistic heroes have their off days - they just usually go unpublished.

I hope you enjoyed your October. Mine was full of activity that seemed to happen long ago, but still the month was over in a snap.

be bold. make messes.

The Bear Brothers!

Sup. Still doing this #sketchtober thing so I thought I'd just show you this little project I'm currently working on - you kind of a get an insider's look for this one, because it's not finished yet, still needs some adjustments and refinements.

But anyway, if any of you have seen the show "We Bare Bears" you are probably pretty well acquainted with these guys.

The oldest of the bear brothers is Grizzly (a.k.a. "Grizz"), he watches out for the other two, being the most protective and most responsible. He can be a little bossy at times, but its only because he wants what's best for his little brothers.

The middle child is Panda, or "Pan Pan" who sometimes acts like the youngest. He's a little goofy, just wants to have fun, and dreams to be famous on social media, always checking his phone, which he claims is his "life and soul in rectangular form." He can get a little out of control with his ambitions sometimes, but he ultimately is a sweet little guy who just needs some love and guidance.

Ice Bear is the youngest, and the quietest of the group, but in reality, the foundation of the family (literally, when they're getting around in their "bearstack" as seen above.) He cooks, he cleans, and he has a very valuable intuition that has gotten the bears out of a few scrapes. He doesn't say very much at all, and is a little mysterious, but voices his opinion when it counts, and though he isn't very expressive, he has an underlying care for his two older bros that needs no words to shine through.

Anyway, I like these three, so I decided to try and draw them in human form. Like I said its a working progress, but here you go.

"We Bare Bears" Human form rough sketch - Medium: Pencil

Pan Pan, with his mobile device in his hand, and that dopey smile on his face.
My hope is to color it, so he'll have black hair, a white vest, a black bowtie, and a grey dress shirt, with (I can't decide) green, brown, or black eyes.
Grizz, with that big brotherly grin on his face - his hair will be dark brown, his eyes light brown, his corduroy jacket another shade of brown, and his sweater beneath a drab green or goldenrod perhaps. His hat is either burgundy, drab, or gray.
Ice Bear looking his solemn mysterious self, with platinum blonde hair, piercing blue eyes, a pale blue hoodie, and a white apron. If you look in the full picture above, you can see I'm planning on having him wear oven mitts and have a tray of muffins, or some sort of food.
So that's what I got. Thanks for stopping by

Roslin

She's not my best but I wanted to post another for #sketchtober.

The dress is inspired by one of the outfits in the movie Love & Mercy about Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys.

The glasses were to make her face not look so strange on her head, because something wasn't working with her forehead here. The short hair is because I'm thinking of cutting my hair soon, and was just drawing out a possible style.

So she's really not much of a solid character, just a figure with a bunch of experiments thrown on her. But for the love of it, let's just call her Roslin.

you can't spell imagine without magi, and we all know you can't spell magic without magi either, so... obviously those to are connected - make magic: imagine

i tried, guys.

Kyel and Vinn

#sketchtober, another pair (the previous pair I've featured here was Castle and Britney). I've really been into drawing pairs of people lately. Sometimes I draw siblings or couples, but usually, such as these two, its a pair of friends.

Kyel and Vinn (Medium: Pencil)
Also, I realized there's so many ways to spell Kyle. Kaisle, Kiyell, Kaiel, Kaielle (girly), etc. So I wanted to pick a more unique spelling. I stuck with one of the simpler alternate spellings - Kyel - so as to not confuse people too much. I like this spelling a lot because it seems more accurate to the actual pronunciation of the name (KY-ull).

In this picture, Kyel is giving his energetic friend Vinn an interesting look. I can't really figure out what his expression is honestly. It seems sort of dazed and emotional (mainly because of the eyes), but at the same time tired and sarcastic (the eyebrow position and the slightly lowered eyelids), and all of it with a hint of mild amusement (especially in the mouth area; he's not smiling, but it looks as though he may be just about to).

As for Vinn, you can see that his personality is quite different from Kyel's. He has an expression of vibrant energy glowing in his eyes, a bit of a mischeivous hint probably due to the eye brow position and big, white-toothed, slightly crooked smile, but also a sweet sense of amiable innocence (probably because of the nose, the dimple, and the WIDE open eyes breaking the fourth wall.)

I don't usually spend this much time analyzing my own art (well, that's a lie, I just don't usually write it down for people to see.) But I figured, I always love it when people look at my drawings and say what they think of the personality of whatever I've drawn. So maybe for a change you would all like to see what I think of the character of my drawings. I certainly had fun doing it, and usually when I draw things I don't end up figuring out their personality until they're all finished up.

Anyway, I know this post was long and that's okay if you didn't read the whole thing, but I had a lot of fun with it and wouldn't be afraid to do it again. And if you DID read the whole thing - thanks! That means a lot, and I hope you enjoyed it and were inspired somehow :)

Well that's all for #sketchtober today. Hope you liked Kyel and Vinn.

serious bear

Another one for #sketchtober

I just watched the live action Cinderella and my favorite scene has to be the quirky painter scene. It was so odd and out of place and random that I actually found it rather funny, especially when he plummeted in his swing and said "OHH KAY... AHAH... LIKE I AM LIT'RALLY ON THE GROUND RIGHT NOW."
I don't know why I'm even mentioning this. It's just so random there's really no good transition into mentioning it, but anyway, if you see the writing on the paper it says "I am lit'rally a bear right now." And so that's the whole reason why in case you were wondering.

you're welcome.

3 for the 3rd

Three more sketches for #sketchtober. Technically the first two are from late September, but I wanted to post them, so better late than never. The third one came to me today.

Loris Schull. A great smile. Medium: Pencil

She's had several different names so far. Mina I think is most fitting. Medium: Pencil

Definitely a princess. My family had a ball trying to figure out her ethnicity. Medium: Pencil

A lot of pen artists I'm aware of are doing something called #inktober in which they create ink drawings throughout the month (a lot of them one for each day). Some of them are really cool, so I'll put a few below for you to see.

Shady Character by Julius Genosas

Cthulhu Cat by Bryon Rempel

I guess October is an inspiration month for a lot of people!

#Sketchtober

Rhett and Link are doing something called #sketchtober in which they will be posting various comedic youtube sketches. Here is there first one. It's hilarious and I approve.

I thought this was interesting because I was thinking of starting my own #sketchtober as well, only of course with drawing sketches and not video sketches. I don't know how often I will be posting sketches, but Autumn has me inspired to draw more! So here's the first of hopefully many more sketches this month. Happy October!

Medium is Pencil and crayon

I always loved going to pumpkin patches as a kid (still do!) and just like this kid here, I always picked out the biggest one I could carry to take home and carve. Fun times.

Remember: Boredom is not a bad thing! It's an opportunity to do something majestic! It all depends on what you choose to do with your boredom.
